A park walk in white and blue

SLOW TRAVEL NOTES

One Landscape, Taken Slowly

The sea seems deeper blue when the rocks beside it are so white. At Shirasaki Ocean Park in Yura, that contrast is the attraction. Rather than collecting more stops, follow the changing shapes of limestone along the path and pause at the lookout. A quiet half-day gives the landscape room.

The 10:00–14:00 outline begins after arrival at the park; it is not a train or bus timetable. The park’s official direct-bus guidance is for Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays only. Without a car, check outward and return services for your date, or arrange another means of transport before leaving.

Check park notices on arrival

Check access notices, the weather and your return transport on arrival. Ten o’clock is an editorial guide. The official direct-bus information applies to Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays; confirm both journeys for your date. This is not a walk all the way from JR Kii-Yura Station.

The photographs date to 2007 and 2017. Buildings and equipment pictured are not promises of present-day services. Follow local restrictions; this plan does not include climbing rocks, descending to the water, swimming or booked activities.

Look out over the sea

Look out over the sea

The prefectural guide describes stairs and a path among limestone leading to the lookout. In strong wind or if footing is difficult, enjoy the view from a safer point instead. Current access notices take priority over the proposed route.

A small change of direction rearranges the white rocks against the blue sea. Enjoy another angle before turning back along open paths. Descending to the shore, swimming, boat trips and activities are not part of this itinerary.

EDITORIAL NOTE

One Landscape, Taken Slowly

The prefecture’s visitor guide describes a path among white limestone and a lookout beyond it. Shirasaki rewards a change of angle: the same rocks and water form a different view as you walk. Use only paths open to visitors.
