A short beach walk and back to the station by lunchtime

SLOW TRAVEL NOTES

Choose the return bus before heading to the sand.

Keep this half-day around one beach rather than a list of sights. Take the bus from Shirahama Station, walk only as far as suits your child, then return. Adult return bus fare is JPY680; elementary-school children pay JPY340 return. Adding an editorial allowance for lunch and drinks gives JPY1,680–2,180 per adult. There is no need to cover the beach’s full length of about 620m. Shorten the 09:30–12:20 example for tiredness or cold. Choose a calm, fine day; swimming and seasonal events are not included. The illustrations are conceptual and do not show actual scenery, vehicles or facilities.

Before you go: common questions

Is this a swimming plan?

No. It is a short beach walk, with no assumption about swimming access or lifeguards.

How long and how much from the station?

The prefectural guide says about 15 minutes by bus. The published one-way fare is JPY340 per adult or JPY170 per elementary-school child; return fares are JPY680 and JPY340.

What is the total per person?

Adult: JPY680 return bus plus JPY1,000–1,500 food allowance = JPY1,680–2,180. Elementary-school child: JPY340 plus JPY500–1,000 = JPY840–1,340. One adult and one child: JPY2,520–3,520. Rail fares and other extras are excluded.

Must we walk 620m?

No. This describes the beach’s length, not a prescribed walking distance. Stay within an easy return distance and shorten the walk at any point.

Are services and facilities guaranteed?

Bus times are examples from the official timetable. Check the day’s operation and stops, allow time for train connections, and confirm essential indoor rest or toilet facilities beforehand.

Travel notes

What to notice along the way

01

White sand, at a manageable pace

The approximately 620m beach is not a distance you must complete. Keep the return point clear.

02

Sort out the way back first

Check the return stop and destination before walking, and leave before your child becomes overtired.

03

Separate each person’s budget

Adult return fare is JPY680; elementary-school fare is JPY340. Food is a planning allowance, not a quoted menu price.

EDITORIAL NOTE

Choose the return bus before heading to the sand.

A little time beside the sea is the point. This plan adds neither Sandanbeki nor Engetsu Island. Official bus examples are separated from editorial time allowances. Access across sand with a stroller and indoor resting places are not guaranteed. Conceptual illustrations; not depictions of actual scenery, roads, vehicles or facilities.
