A line of rocks suggests a bridge that never quite reached the other shore. Tall pillars, low pillars and water between them: the name Hashiguiiwa makes you look a second time. The station is close, but the landscape carries a much longer sense of time.
Start at JR Kushimoto Station, view the rocks, pause at the roadside station, look again and return. The town gives a 20-minute walk; the prefectural guide gives about 25 minutes. The 10:00–14:00 outline is editorial, not a train or bus timetable. Stay on currently accessible land-side paths; this route does not include entering the sea or tidal flats.

Check the return train and weather first. The 10:00–14:00 outline is an editorial example, not a train or bus schedule.
Photographs show scenery in 2018 and 2020. Exposed rocks or people standing on tidal flats in an old image are not present-day access advice. Keep this outing land-side and follow tide, wave, wind and local restrictions. Sunrise and light-up events are not required experiences.

EDITORIAL NOTE
Read the Coast Before Learning Its Names
Hashiguiiwa is a national scenic natural monument. Kushimoto describes more than 40 rock pillars stretching for around 850m. The landscape is explained by sea erosion leaving harder rock behind. A separate legend tells of Kobo Daishi and Amanojaku. Knowing which is geology and which is a story gives you two ways to enjoy the same view.
