A Town’s Time Beside the River: From Koza Station to Takaike

Start at JR Koza Station and take time with the Koza River and Takaike’s riverside houses in Wakayama. You need not get into the water to notice how close the mountains, river and daily life sit together. Check your return train first and adapt the walking to local transport and your energy.

Koza Station and Takaike: time in a river town

SLOW TRAVEL NOTES

A Day Beside the River, Rather Than Down It

Simply looking at a river can change how a town appears. Houses lean close to the water, hills rise behind them, and gaps in the street open a view to the opposite bank. Near the mouth of the Koza River, water feels less like a backdrop than the center of daily life. It is a place to pause before hurrying across the next bridge.

Begin at JR Koza Station. Enjoy the river nearby, then extend toward Takaike if time and transport allow. The 10:00–15:00 outline is editorial, not a train or bus timetable. Check the return train and travel to Takaike first; there is no need to connect everything on foot.

EDITORIAL NOTE

A Day Beside the River, Rather Than Down It

Kushimoto’s official Koza River guide gives access as a five-minute walk from JR Koza Station. Kozagawa’s municipal guide places Takaike, where the town office stands, in the river-mouth area. Combine time looking at the river near the station with a visit to Takaike around your return transport.
