SLOW TRAVEL NOTES
Make 108 steps a reason to slow down.
Beyond the torii, a stone approach leads through trees toward the steps and vermilion gate of Kishu Toshogu. Rather than adding more stops, spend time looking at the approach, the changing colors of the buildings and the timberwork around the gates. This is a visit centered on one shrine in Wakaura.
The 10:00–14:00 plan connects the Gongenmae bus-stop area, approach, staircase, gate, optional paid viewing, lunch and the return. These are editorial times, not a bus timetable. The 108 steep steps need time and suitable footing on the way down as well as up.

EDITORIAL NOTE
Make 108 steps a reason to slow down.
Official city and prefectural guides date Kishu Toshogu to 1621. The stone approach leads to the 108-step Samurai-zaka and a vermilion gate. Allow viewing time separately from movement.
Official tourism listings give different admission prices, so no definitive amount is quoted here. Check the areas open and the day’s admission guidance before choosing paid viewing. All 4 photographs show 2008 scenery, not proof of current access. Shorten the visit to the approach if wet steps or physical demands make the climb unsuitable.
