Before the mountain trail: Fujishiro Shrine and Suzuki House from Kainan Station
SLOW TRAVEL NOTES
Read one place name before travelling farther.
A visit to the Kumano routes need not include a mountain crossing. Walk from JR Kainan Station to Fujishiro Shrine, then visit nearby Suzuki House to learn how this place connects with Kumano belief. The prefectural guide gives about 20 minutes on foot from the station; this example allows 30 minutes each way for finding the route. It excludes Fujishiro-zaka and Gosho-no-Shiba. Return to the station, choose lunch and finish around 13:00. The indoor visit depends on opening hours and the day’s closure calendar, rather than a promise of admission.

Before you go: common questions
Is this a mountain walk?
It excludes Fujishiro-zaka and Gosho-no-Shiba. The station-to-shrine/house route can still have steps or uneven surfaces; shorten it if the walking load is unsuitable.
When is Suzuki House open?
The operator lists 10:00–16:00, closed Mondays, Tuesdays and the year-end/New Year period. Check its calendar for additional closures and holiday arrangements.
Is admission JPY 300?
The prefectural tourism page still shows JPY 300, while the operator’s visitor information says JPY 500 per person. This article uses the operator’s JPY 500 and recommends checking before visiting.
What is the budget per person?
JPY 500 admission plus an optional JPY 1,000–1,500 food/drink allowance gives JPY 1,500–2,000. Rail fares and other extras are separate; this is not a restaurant package price.
What about photography and food?
No eating indoors. Use of buildings/garden and commercial photography require prior permission. The conceptual illustrations do not show the actual buildings or facilities.

EDITORIAL NOTE
Read one place name before travelling farther.
Visit the shrine, then the house and garden, before returning to the station. The operator describes the Fujishiro Suzuki family’s role in spreading Kumano belief; that is not proof of every Suzuki family’s genealogy. This is a source-based itinerary, not an account of a personal visit. Conceptual illustrations, not reproductions of Fujishiro Shrine, Suzuki House, their buildings, gardens, roads, autumn foliage or facilities.
