Stone Paths, Vermilion Halls and Water: A Day from Daimonzaka to Nachi

Take a bus from Kii-Katsuura to Daimonzaka, climb the stone path and connect Kumano Nachi Taisha, Seigantoji and Nachi Falls at Hiro Shrine. The 10:00–15:00 plan is editorial. Skip the old path and ride to Nachisan if rain or footing makes it unsuitable.

SLOW TRAVEL NOTES

The climb connects the mountain’s scenery.

Change the scene from seaside town to mountain by bus. Between the cedars of Daimonzaka, the uneven stone path encourages a slower pace. Above it lie vermilion shrine buildings, a temple pagoda and a waterfall. Walking the links gives the familiar photographs of Nachi a different dimension.

This editorial 10:00–15:00 day starts from JR Kii-Katsuura Station and uses buses; it is not an all-walking station circuit. Steps and slopes are substantial. For rain or limited stamina, omit Daimonzaka and ride to Nachisan instead, then choose only manageable public paths.

EDITORIAL NOTE

The climb connects the mountain’s scenery.

The tourism organization describes about 650m of stone paving at Daimonzaka and an example of roughly 2.5km, about two hours including visits, from its entrance via Nachi Taisha to the falls. This is not a guarantee for the whole day or bus waits. Wear suitable shoes and carry rainwear; wet stones and stairs need care.
